ALICE UPDATE

4th Quarter

  2008

I have been remiss on timely updates. It is almost November and in a “wisk” we are about to loose 2008. Financial and political situations are a mess. I am really banking on the old saying that “this too shall pass”.

Nonetheless, this year has been full and fruitful...so much to be thankful for.

Caline and Jean Jacques joined us in Atlanta for Christmas 07 and extrended their stay into and through Jan 08. It is such a pleasure to be around them. We all went to Santa Fe, New Mexico for 10 days. Coldest it has been in last 100 years. I painted for a show that was presented in March in Vero Beach, Fl. at Meghan Candler Fine Art Gallery. It turned out to be a magical time in Santa Fe with all that white snow.

Don and I couldn’t resist visiting Caline and Jean Jacques for the month of April. We spent most of the trip in Aix en Provence. Did all the things you do when you visit south of France. I really didn’t want to come home.

We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to revisit Santa Fe in July. Especially delightful from weather standpoint but very special, as we were there with Rivers and Foster (10 and 7 year old grandchildren), their parents and many guests.

I didn’t get as much painting as needed for the upcoming October Show at the Shain Gallery in Charlotte... so I toodled back to France for a month of painting in August/September. You guessed it.... spent the time with Caline in the south. We did get an opportunity to spend a week in Paris. Always an inspiring event for me.

I was presented with an opportunity of a lifetime on this trip to France. Got to paint at the Chateau Noir, just outside of Aix en Provence and right next door to Caline’s home. This is a famous place where Ceyzanne had a studio and painted many of his late paintings. It is in full view of the famous Mount St Victoire. I felt very fortunate, as the owner of Chateau Noir has not let anyone visit the Chateau for decades. Thank heavens he is a neighbor of Calines. I have a category in the Paintings section named Chateau Noir. These are a few of the paintings I created on this last trip.

Think positively, enjoy to the fullest both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Best wishes, Alice
