STUDENT COMMENTS

What a wonderful workshop! I really learned some new ideas that I have incorporated

into my paintings. You actually owe me about a thousand dollars as I now boldly paint

over the lines…. Your workshop was a valuable experience.  (One of my favorite sayings

in class was, “I’ll pay you $10 to paint encroaching over the lines”.)

Consider this a deposit for your next workshop – I’m enrolled. Alice, I tore everything off

my studio walls and drew all over them. They look great. I wonder if you know what

absolutely splendid hosts you both are. Thank you,

Dear Betsy, Loved Alice’s show! She looks fabulous…trim and chic. Her work was very

special and her talk inspiring – so much so a friend with me said she wants to become an

artist – seriously. Spoke with Alice the day after but, of course, she was very busy, but

hope next time we can get together. Love Sissy

Alice and Don,

Since returning (from the workshop), I have breathed easier and loved my husband and

my children more. I see with new eyes; registering straight lines and angles; invoking the

purest of colors; melding warm and cool. My soul stirs with emotion anticipating the

canvas. I know that art is a part of me. It motivates me, inspires my daily activity and

encourages me to be different. Simply put, this last week was aestetic bliss. The energy,

attention to detail and graciousness to which you both aspire is beyond any expression of

gratitude. I realize for the two of youthis is a state of being. Thank you for the things I

will never forget....

Dear Alice and Don, It’s hard to know where to start….the workshop was just fabulous.

Just watching you paint the model in the demonstration is inspirational. But doing it in

your beautiful home, surrounded by your beautiful paintings, was really incredible. Your

home, gardens and hospitality reflect both of you so well. It was wonderful to spend three

days in the midst of such beauty, talent and kindness. It’s not only your painting that is

so inspirational but your whole life. Thank you for sharing that with me. I’ve finished my

“Sarah” painting and am working on the other two. Don will be pleased to know that

we’ve all gotten our copies of Country Sampler. The house looks lovely and I’m proud to

have been there. …Please come back to Jacksonville. Love, Jackie. May 21, 2004

Dearest Alice, for two and a half weeks I’ve tried to figure out how to say thank you such

that you could really understand the depth and breadth of its meaning. I have not come

up with anything earth shattering so …thank you for everything. I love the whole

experience, and if I never lifted another brush, it would still be one of my most favorite

escapades. I am going to continue though because you gave me the inspiration to study

and sketch. Maybe you’ll see a difference I am coming to Rabon Gap. Thank you. Also

thank you for letting us invade your garden. My girl friends loved you.

Much love to you and Don, Sharon
