Right outside my studio here in Provence is a grand old olive tree under which I planted rows of Hidcote lavender, a fabulous cultivar of intense blue purple. Then for a focal point we placed a bench against the stone wall and surrounded it with irises, boxwood and camellias. This was painted right before the lavender will start blooming. Hmmm, calls for another painting in a few weeks, I’m thinking.
