I have always taught that still lifes are a wonderful way to learn how to paint. You have at your disposal all the subject matter you desire. And you can choose the perfect light, be it a lamp, or gorgeous sunlight shafting through a window to get the effect you want.
In this instance, we were enjoying these delicious Ambrosias apples when I decided they would make for great subject matter. And the lamp I love: having bought it in England second hand when we lived there, it has been in many of my paintings.
