This still life demonstration took place in Greenville, South Carolina in front of about twenty artists watching. Held at Vintage Now Modern on Main Street, which does a fine job representing me in Greenville, I chose a fabulous piece of fabric full of pattern because I am a passionate clutterer when it comes to paintings, as well as decorating. And, as it had a lot of cool dark values, I put some warm, bright apples (pale though, not red) in a cool (blue) bowl to create some bounce.
I am all about light so, here again, as in many still lifes, I had to have a nice old lamp of my Mother’s to light it all up. I have a thing for this lamp, as it sat beside the telephone in my parents home all my childhood years, and I used to study it intensely chatting away on the telephone as a teenager.
Having not finished it the morning of the demo, you can now see the end result.
