ALICE UPDATE
4th Quarter
2008
I have been remiss on timely updates. It is almost November and in a “wisk” we are bout to loose 2008. Financial and political situations are a mess. I am really banking on the old saying that “this too shall pass”.
Nonetheless this year has been full and fruitful. Good health and much activity in 2008. So much to be thankful about.
Caline and Jean Jacque joined us in Atlanta for Christmas 07 and extrended their stay into and through Jan 08. It is such a pleasure to be around them. We all went to Santa Fe, New Mexico for 10 days. Coldest it has been in last 100 years. Painted for a show that was presented in March in Vero Beach, Fl at Meghan Candler Fine Art Gallert.Turned out to be a magical time in Santa Fe.
Don and I couldn’t resist visiting them for the month of April. We spent most of the trip in Aix en Provence. Did all the things you do when you visit south of France. Didn’t want to come home.
Couldn’t pass up opportunity to revisit Santa Fe in July. Especially delightful from weather standpoint but very special as we were there with Rivers and Foster (10 and 7 year old grandchildren).
Didn’t get as much painting as needed for the upcoming October Show at the Shain Gallery in Charlotte so I toodled back to France for a month of painting. You guessed it.... spent the time with Caline in the south of France. We did get an opportunity to spend a week in Paris. Always an inspiring event for me.
An opportunity of a lifetime presented itself on this trip to France. I got to paint at the Chateau Noir, just outside of Aix en Provence and right next door to Caline’s home. This is famous place wher Ceyzanne had his studio. It is in full view of the famous Mount St Victoire. I felt very fortunate as the owner of Chateau Noir has let no one visit the Chateau for decades. Thank heavens he is a neighbor of Calines’. I have a category in the Paintings section name Chateau Noir. There you can view a few of the painting thatI created on this last trip.
Don and I wish the best to each and everyone .Think positively, enjoy to the fullest both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Until the next update, Alice
Time passes so quickly. Seems as if it were yesterday I was updating you on 2006 travels and outlining our plans for 2007. This year has been as magical as last year. Africa for 5 weeks this summer was as inspirational as was the previous 4 visits. Grandchildren 9 and 5 years old went and it was great to see them experience that part of the world. If you haven’t been, go. If you have, go again.
We were in Europe for 4 weeks. Caline and Jean-Jacques hosted us for those glorious weeks. Our travels took us to Holland, France and Turkey. We wanted to but couldn’t squeeze in a revisit to Italy. Next summer.
We spent a glorious Thanksgiving week in the Bahamas with friends Kay and Robbie Reed at Harbor Island. It was our first visit to that part of the world. What a treat. Can’t wait to return. Thanks Kay and Robbie.
Paintings that were created on site or influenced by the travels of the year can be seen in the Paintings section of the Website.
Next year is shaping up to be quite exciting as well. We will visit Santa Fe, New Mexico on 2 occasions for about a month total and will spend time in San Diego, CA. End of summer hopefully will include Italy and a return to France.
Good luck to you all this coming year. I have to go to work now as I have 3 shows and an auction in 2007. Visit Exhibitions section of Website for more detail on times and dates
Best Wishes, Alice
